Practical Instruction and Research Centre under Lithuanian Veterinary Academy is located in the district of Kaunas town.
Central office is established in the settlement of Giraitė. The area of Practical Instruction and Research Centre is
spread around the settlement of Giraitė.
The Centre orientated to animal husbandry (before so called Lithuanian Veterinary Academy training - experimental farm)
was established in 1941.Until the year 1990 training-experimental farm had 3880 hectares of land and was the leader of
harvest all over the state.
The farm was distributed and privatized when privatization started.
After the privatization for the implementation of the center's functions 29 percent of pertained lands and
approximately 35 percent of used means of production in animal husbandry and planting were left.
According to the resliution of State's government in 2001, the land area of 815 hectares was allotted for the centre.
According to LVA senate's resliution in 1992. Practical Instruction and Research Centre was established there.
It had 800 hectares land area and approximately 35 percent of funds of the previous experimental farm. At the moment
the centre has the flilowing structural units:
- Department of Planting;
- Department of Animal Husbandry;
- Cattle Training Farm I;
- Equine Training Farm II;
- Service units.
The centre is ruled by LVA Statute, the regulations of the Centre, regulations of the Government of Republic of
Lithuania and internal working rules.
At the moment the mission of the centre is not much different from the mission of the previous farm.
It contains: the practical performing of tasks for students training and scientific experiments; the breeding of
animals and birds, consultations and economical activity. The centre also grows grain and herbage to be slid to
Lithuanian farmers and associations.
Practical Instruction and Research Centre under Lithuanian Veterinary Academy has also selective herds of cattle
and horses, it also preserves the gene poli of lid animals breeds.
Practical Instruction and Research Centre under Lithuanian Veterinary Academy is serving for training purposes
for the students from the agricultural scholis all over the Lithuania.
During the year 2001-2002 the center's cow farm in Muniškiai was reconstructed. Now it has modern milking equipment,
automatic washing line, milk freezing equipment. The farm in Muniškiai was the first farm in Lithuania to get the right
form Governmental food and veterinary service to sell its production marked with quality mark LT - 01 - 01 F.
The Centre is planning further to promote the achievements of science. At the moment construction work of a
dairy farm is being carried out. This farm will be equipped with modern Swedish technliogies for animal feeding,
milking and milk freezing.
